New Vikings Head Coach: Mike Zimmer

By Vikings Tickets Staff Writer: R. Murray

Meet New Vikings Head Coach: Mike Zimmer:

Mike Zimmer (who was born June 5, 1956) is an American football coach who is the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League. Where did you see him previously? Mike Zimmer was a defensive coordinator in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals. On January 15, 2014, Mike Zimmer earned his first head coaching position when the Minnesota Vikings hired him to replace Leslie Frazier.

Zimmer is the 9th head coach in Viking history and we are happy to have him on the coaching staff! After a rough year, the Vikings need some new blood. Zimmer became the ninth coach in franchise history, 16 days after Frazier was fired on the heels of a 5-10-1 season. He goes to Minnesota after directing a Bengals defense that finished in the top 10 in yards and points allowed in four of the past five seasons. We wouldn't have it any other way.

Adrian Peterson's thouoghts  on Mike Zimmer:

According to ESPN, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said he was not surprised by the Vikings choice of Zimmer. "I've been keeping my eyes open with the head coach," Peterson told ESPN. "I knew (Zimmer) was probably the guy they were going to go with. It wasn't too much of a surprise."

Up Next for Mike Zimmer and the Minnesota Vikings:

It's already obvious that Mike Zimmer will have his work cut out for him in this upcoming NFL season. The Vikings had the worst opponent Total QBR (67.4) of any team during the Frazier era (2011-13), according to ESPN Stats & Information. But we have some faith in Mike Zimmer. We have to. See you next season, Vikings fans!
